I wanted to make sure you weren't one of the people who found unpleasant surprises in their lockers. There were more than usual this time around.
[ she sighs. ] You saw the network after the jump, yeah? It's comms' job to sort out how a transmission like that came through, and where it came from. [ especially considering a dead man broadcasted it. ] Plus, there's the nineteen versus twenty business going on.
[The question is enough of a confirmation that she didn't have anything strange or awful in her locker this jump, so she doesn't bother saying that she didn't get anything new.]
Saw a bit about all that nineteenth versus twentieth, got any clue as to what's going on?
Bloody things, tattered things, things I couldn't see but elicited a bad reaction from those who could. It's like a horror film, when small stuff goes wrong right before the big bad is revealed.
[ Her worry sounds detached. It didn't happen to her, either, but there were others that she saw. She never thought her people watching would prove enlightening. ]
No more than most people. Tony's right. There's only one nineteen and he seems as confused as we are. Plus, there's Jaye. I don't doubt she stayed out through the jump, especially give her current condition.
I think wherever we ended up once the regular jump cycle ended — once we hit nineteen — it was a danger zone and we couldn't stay. The danger got to Jaye because she was out, but the ship kept going. The auto-pilot or the captain or whatever failsafe in place called for another jump. So, here we are, in the relative safety of the number twenty.
That's my unsupported theory, anyway. Of course, it doesn't explain the Lone Ranger. [ Poor Joe. ] I'm pretty sure we went through two jumps, though. The numbers wouldn't malfunction to this extent.
No, I like your theory. Even if it's unsupported, it makes sense.
[Rose doesn't want to admit that she doesn't pay as much attention to the network as she should, she's usually too busy keeping her communicator buried in her jacket or a jumper as she searches the ship, and therefore misses a lot. So she sounds pretty shamefaced, even as she tries to support Clara's idea.]
I mean, two jumps in a row makes sense. How could it not, if there's someone here with the number and none of the rest of us remember anything, maybe he just slipped on in right at the only safe second, and the rest of us just stayed asleep?
[She sounds entirely doubtful, but it's worth saying out loud.]
Think I might be able to help you look into all this? I can't help out much with the technical side of anything, but I wanna see what's being figured out as it happens.

[ Something. Everything. They don't call it "space hell" for nothing. ]

What kinda something came up, though? Are you okay?

[ it seems like that to Clara, anyway. Rose is bubbly, funny, chipper. She's easy to talk to. ]
You might want to chat with Mr. Nineteen.

Yeah, y'know, you're right! I'm pretty good with people every now and then. Not great or anything, but I can go on ahead and give the new guy a chat.
